Lock Up Your Storage Auction Winnings

Another vital item you must have with you at the storage unit auction is a padlock. Why? Because as soon as you win the bid, you should lock the unit if you are going to get your vehicle in order to start moving the contents or plan to bid on other units at that facility.

Beware-if you do not have the padlock things may vanish in the brief moments before you return with your vehicle.

You may be allowed to keep your goods in the unit for 24-48 hours beyond the close of the auction. This rule varies site to site, auction to auction. However, if you come prepared with a lock you will simplify your life.

Often mini storage facilities have locks for sale in the manager's office. What if they have run out? What if you are late and don't have time to buy one before the bidding begins? The best advice is to be prepared. Have that padlock in hand and be ready to lock up your purchase as soon as you own it.

Also, you may be covering multiple auctions in the same day, racing from one to the next. You will not have time to sort and load your winning storage treasures from one auction if you are heading out to another one. So, all the more reason to have that padlock. You will be able to close up the unit, secure it, and head out to your next stop.
